Richard Cottrell

From “Mass-media” to “Me-media”: How to Meet the Changing Needs of Today's Online Audience

Richard Cottrell is the CEO of Accenture's newly formed Digital Media Services business following a successful career at EMI Music.

His first three years were in the UK as Commercial Director when he was appointed President and CEO of EMI Music Distribution (USA). During his 6 years in the US role he transformed a group of disparate divisions into a highly profitable and customer focussed organisation.

During this time he also steered EMI into the digital world by launching early digital initiatives including the first digital downloads and digital asset management system.

In 2002 he moved back to London to take on the corporate role of leading EMI's global response to the threat of piracy especially digital piracy. In addition, he played a leading role in developing EMI's strategy for generating new revenue streams from the emerging online and mobile digital channels

Prior to Joining EMI in 1993, Richard built his early career within Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola Schweppes Beverages (CCSB) in the UK where he held a number of senior Sales and Marketing roles over 12 years culminating in heading the Grocery Division as Trading Director. He demonstrated his entrepreneurial flair by launching a new business venture for CCSB in 1987 and built it into one of their fastest growing divisions.

He has a BA (Hons) in Business Studies (1985) and an M.B.A. (1988) from Kingston. He and his wife Carol have two children. He is a keen golfer and a qualified pilot (PPL).

Jim Guerard

As vice president and general manager of Adobe's Dynamic Media Organization, Jim Guerard leads product strategy and execution for Adobe's award-winning digital video and rich media products providing creative professionals with comprehensive video and web solutions that support entire workflows from conceptualization through delivery. Specific products under Guerard's leadership include Adobe Premiere® Pro, Flash®, Flash Media Server, Adobe Media Player, After Effects®, Soundbooth®, Encore® DVD, Audition®, and Adobe® Creative Suite® 3 Production Premium.

Guerard joined Adobe through the company's acquisition of Macromedia, Inc. in December 2005. At Macromedia, Guerard was vice president of product management and marketing for Macromedia's creative tools including Flash®, Macromedia® Studio 8, Dreamweaver®, and Fireworks® software, accounting for roughly 60% percent of the company's revenue. In this role, Guerard led product management and marketing, and managed all business aspects for the Studio Product Family including global responsibility for next-generation releases and the go-to-market strategy and execution of the global Flash video agenda.

Guerard has extensive product marketing experience in the software industry. Prior to joining Macromedia in 2004, Guerard served as vice president and general manager at Pinnacle Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of high-quality video creation and distribution tools. While there, Guerard developed and implemented product development and marketing strategy successfully segmenting the business between consumer and professional products. Guerard's 25 years of experience includes management positions with incremental images, inc., Autodesk, Inc., PF. Magic, Inc., The Walt Disney Company, and Computervision, Inc.

Guerard holds a bachelor's degree from University of Vermont and a master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Virginia.

Adam Berrey

Adam Berrey is responsible for developing and implementing Brightcove's marketing and business strategies. Adam brings more than 10 years of operational, business, and marketing management experience to the Brightcove management team. Prior to Onfolio, Adam was the VP, Marketing at Macromedia where he led the launch of the Macromedia MX platform for Rich Internet Applications. Adam joined Macromedia when they merged with Allaire in 2001. He was part of the founding team at Allaire, and during his five year tenure, he held a variety of positions leading strategic marketing and business efforts in product management, product marketing, marketing communications, and business strategy helping to grow the company from $500,000 to more than $100 million in annual revenue.

Darren Person

Chief Technology Officer, CBS

Panel Discussion: Bringing It All Together

Darren is currently responsible for all technology aspects for the CBS 29 local owned and operated television station web sites: cbslocal.com. In this role he reports to the President of CBS Television Stations Digital Media Group.

He has also been responsible for the development and creation of the content management platform which is the backbone of the station websites, all Information Systems operations, overseeing data center operations, data/telecom networking, development, data security and QA support teams.

Prior to joining CBS, Darren was Director of Development for New Media at Lifetime Entertainment, a leading online entertainment and women's community network. He was directly responsible for all New Media technology operations and development for Lifetime including their flagship website lifetimetv.com. He oversaw the creation of a robust, highly scalable game platform in addition to a full fledge video and content management system bringing on-air to online and improving overall workflow.

Earlier as Director of Development for USA Networks, Inc. Darren helped develop the technology behind several key initatives at USA Networks. He oversaw the development and creation of the Secondary Events Maintenance System that digitally controls and automates all manual secondary event operations. In addition, Darren also oversaw the architecture and development of a web based business intelligence platform, Dub Management Systems and Media Library Systems.

Darren has a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Computer Information Science from Ithaca College. In addition he is pursuing an advanced graduate program at the Wharton School.

Though Darren's architecture and design today is limited to larger scale projects, he is a firm believer in finding the best solution to meet the problem at hand. He stays agnostic to technology and maintains an open mind to all technology stacks from open source to propriatary solutions.

A native of New York, Darren lives on Long Island with his wife Jaimie and their two children.

Ron Berryman

Ron Berryman serves as Senior Vice President, GM of FIM Stations Group for FOX Interactive Media, where he guides the online strategic direction of FOX's 24 owned and operated television stations, as well as the network's 180+ affiliates. Ron previously founded and served as CEO of Sidereus Technologies, a company specializing in delivering rich-media desktop applications and rich-media-enabled web technologies. Sidereus was acquired by Fox Interactive Media in August 2005 and recently rebranded as FIM Labs.

Before founding Sidereus Technologies — and also online ad company Sidereus Group — Ron served as VP of Marketing and Product Management at ZapMedia, a convergence technology company based in Atlanta. Ron was a key stakeholder in the development of ZapMedia's Hardware Reference Platform, Software Reference Platform and Portal UI development.

Prior to ZapMedia, Berryman worked for The Coca-Cola Company, serving as a team leader for brand measurement and analysis, and helped institute a formal CCUSA 2002 brand planning process. Working with the Sprite, Diet Coke, Powerade and Barq's brand teams, Ron created brand measurement tools to effectively measure program objectives.

Previously, Ron spent 10 years as the principal owner and operator of Berryman Communications, a Marketing Communications Company in Chicago, IL. Clients included Leaf Candy Company, Dannon, Inc., Nickelodeon, Kellogg's, General Motors and The Cartoon Network. Additional management experience includes time spent at Rubbermaid, Inc., Wilderness Foods, Noble Tennant, Chicago and Dawson, Johns & Black in Chicago.

Ron serves on several industry association committees, including the Internet Streaming Media Alliance and the Consumer Electronics Association. He has won several regional and national ADDY Awards and two REGGIE Gold Awards. Most recently, Ron was a key speaker at the National Association of Broadcasters' (NAB) Futures Summit.

John Smelzer

John Smelzer is Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile for Fox Interactive Media (FIM), a role in which he is charged with overseeing the mobile extensions of FIM's online assets, including FOXSports.com, IGN.com, MySpace.com, MyFOX.com and others. His group manages diverse FIM-branded mobile product offerings on a global basis, spanning the wireless product spectrum from WAP to video. Previously, Smelzer served as Senior Vice President of Business Development for FIM, where he helped lead the formation of the new online division of News Corp. while overseeing third-party partnerships, including the acquisition of rights to produce AmericanIdol.com and other entertainment programming.

Smelzer joined News Corp as Director, Business Development for FOXSports.com in August 2001. In this role, he secured FOXSports' place as an industry leader in broadband video. Promoted to Vice President in 2002, Smelzer pioneered FoxSports' mobile business, including the top-ranked FOXSports mobile video offering, available on all major carriers and aggregators. Smelzer also led negotiations with Microsoft for the exclusive distribution of FOXSports.com on MSN.

Previously, Smelzer held positions as the Director of Business Development for NBCOlympics.com, Senior Business Affairs Counsel for the NFL and staff counsel for the 1994 World Cup Organizing Committee. Prior to his career in media, Smelzer was an associate at Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, Calif., and Jeffer, Mangles, Butler & Marmaro in Los Angeles, Calif.

Smelzer holds a Bachelor's degree from UCLA and a Juris Doctor from NYU.

Charles Golvin

Charles serves Consumer Product Strategy professionals. His research covers consumer mobility and the digital home. Prior to joining Forrester, Charles held senior technology positions at Citigroup, providing strategic technology guidance across business units in consumer and corporate finance. Among his projects were initiatives in consumer mobile banking in Japan, mobile commerce in Japan, and mobile payments in the US. His previous experience covers a wide variety of technologies and markets, including CAD for integrated circuit design, 3-D graphics for film and broadcast, consumer entertainment software, interactive television, and production systems for game development.

Carl Goodman

Carl Goodman is Senior Deputy Director of the Museum of the Moving Image, where he supervises the Museum's use and study of digital media and oversees its public programming, education, and collections initiatives. As Curator, and then Director, of Digital Media, he has organized many exhibitions for the Museum including Computer Space, a history of video games, and DigitalMedia, a gallery of software-based art. He is executive producer and co-curator of The Living Room Candidate, an online exhibition about the 54-year history of presidential campaign television commercials. He serves as Project Director of CollectionSpace, an international multi-institutional collaboration devoted to the development next-generation open-source software that makes it easier for museums to put their collections online. Goodman also organizes and hosts the Museum's continuing digital media public programs, which play host to noted digital media professionals, artists, and engineers.

Goodman also serves consultant and panelist to numerous foundation and corporate new media support programs including The Rockefeller Foundation, Creative Capital Foundation, Absolut Vodka, Young and Rubicam, and the John and Mary Markle Foundation.

Steve Mitgang

Steve Mitgang was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Veoh Networks in July 2007. A Silicon Valley and start-up veteran, Steve has 22 years of experience in general management, strategic planning, product management and business development for some for the country's best-known brands, as well as experience with enterprise software and Internet ASPs.

Prior to joining Veoh, Steve was Senior Vice President of the global team leading the definition, creation, and marketing of Yahoo!'s advertising products, platforms, and services. While there, Steve was the senior executive credited with creating the vision and managing the production of Project Panama (Yahoo's new monetization platform). Before his tenure at Yahoo!, Steve led a variety of consumer marketing and technology companies, driving them to leading market positions or successful exits. He joined Yahoo! after its successful acquisition of Overture Services, where he led the company's Performance Marketing group. Prior to joining Overture, he was president and CEO of Keylime Software, a web analytics company acquired by Overture Services under Steve's stewardship.

Josh Siegel

Josh Siegel is responsible for Veoh's revenue operations functions including ad serving (video and display), advertising operations, and managing the company's ad network relationships.

Everdream was considered an early pioneer and a success in Software as a Service (SaaS) for enterprises. Earlier in his career, Josh held marketing and product planning roles at Hewlett Packard and The Gap, Inc.

Prior to Veritas, he led the North American direct sales organization at Akamai Technologies, playing a key role in establishing the company as a leading content delivery services provider. David's earlier positions include Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations at Reardon Commerce (formerly Talaris Corporation) and leadership roles at Gartner Group and Xerox Corporation.

David Burkhardt is Head of Limelight Networks' Professional Services Group. In this capacity, David oversees the Company's efforts to provide customers with a complete suite of professional services, custom engineering services, and seamless implementations.

A 17-year veteran of systems administration, consulting, and technology management, David joined Limelight Networks from Veoh Networks, where he was VP of Technology Operations. Under David's leadership, Veoh.com grew over 346% to a top 25 site in the U.S., experiencing 20% month-over-month unique visitor growth. Prior to Veoh, David led the technology operations group at Fanbox.com, implementing numerous successful initiatives that resulted in significant increases in site uptimes and meaningful improvements to user experience. He also led all technology implementation efforts with the company's streaming music and video verticals.

Prior to his tenure at Fanbox.com, David was Director if IT Operations at Hotwire.com, a leading discount travel site with over a billion dollars in annual revenue and an operating company of Expedia, Inc. At Hotwire, David was responsible for establishing and directing Hotwire's e-Commerce and Internal Operations Teams, and taking a leadership role across all aspects of the company's IT objectives and infrastructure.

David is based in San Diego, CA, is a published technology author, serves on several advisory boards, and often speaks at Web 2.0 related conferences.
